Questions

Is this the same as a China passport photo?

No. The physical paper size can match, but the digital pixel band and 40–120 KB file gate are visa-specific.

Must both ears be visible?

Yes. Current Consular Affairs guidance requires ears visible unless a religious head covering applies.
